Problematic

How can we help hikers pause and shelter safely in the mountains when carrying and pitching a tent is too heavy or time-consuming? Sudden mountain weather changes can quickly turn short breaks into unpleasant or risky moments, while classic tents are too heavy and slow to set up just for a midday stop.

Project Goals

Design a lightweight 2-in-1 mountain garment for Mammut that protects hikers on the move and transforms in seconds into a comfortable shelter for short breaks.

Testimonials

"Our initial prototype used trekking poles and the backpack itself as the shelter's structure—but user testing quickly showed that hikers needed their bag inside with them to grab food and warm clothes. That key insight led us to pivot to a self-supporting inflatable bladder."
